A Common Thread - a tribute show to Sue Cavanaugh

As the owner of Muse Art Services, I represented Sue Cavanaugh for years as her work progressed from representational quilts to fabric art to installations and political statement pieces.  I was honored to be left in charge of Sue Cavanaugh’s artwork upon her death.  For any piece that is sold, I donate a portion of the proceeds to the Columbus Foundation, where Sue had set up a fund for charities she chose.

The Mansfield Art Museum recently returned four bags containing Sue Cavanaugh’s installation piece (her last show).  It seemed such a sad way to say goodbye to such a beloved artist.  During a visit to Columbus, I was discussing with Char Norman, herself an accomplished artist and a well-known curator and arts advocate, an idea I had to better utilize and deal with that installation piece.  I proposed, in a general call for submissions, that all interested artists would receive a portion/part/section of Sue’s fabric installation to incorporate into a work of their own.  It would, essentially, be their own creation as an ode to Sue.

I have had tremendous response from artists throughout the U.S. (with a strong representation from renowned fiber artists and Columbus artists).  These are the artists who will be participating:

The work these artists have created, using sometimes only a small snippet of Sue’s installation, has been great. Each unique, some speaking to Sue’s own beliefs and work, some using the fabric to wholly speak to their own muse. What a journey this has been, and will be. Follow us here for updates.
