A COMMON THREAD - Dana Grubbe

In 2024, I started a project which would involve multiple artists, creating pieces in their own style and of their own choosing, using a part of Sue Cavanaugh’s last installation at the Mansfield Art Museum. 45 artists have now signed up to participate. The work is exciting and thought-provoking, each with their own narrative and application.

Dana Grubbe is one of the artists participating whose work is now complete. Dana is a Columbus artist who attended CCAD and the Ohio State University. She has her Master’s in Computer Engineering, and that background seems to have influenced her current work and the piece for this show. She took small circles of Sue’s fabric and encased them in resin, as well as incorporating alcohol inks that Dana created and some photos of her own work, creating a waterfall of color and texture . . . a mobile that is lit from behind, free-flowing and visceral. The piece is approximately 2’x5’.
